Construction of various infrastructural projects are presently underway in Rourkela city in view of the upcoming FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup, 2023. During his visit to the Steel City, Sundargarh District Collector Dr. Parag H. Gavali reviewed the progress of all these projects and directed the concerned departmental officials to complete works within the set deadline.

Chairing a meeting at the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Monday, the Collector emphasized on successfully conducting the Hockey World Cup.  He suggested the concerned officials to seek involvement of local people while taking up various programmes for the Hockey World Cup. On Tuesday, Dr. Gavali conducted ground inspection of various projects and reviewed their progress.

An advanced Planetarium & Science Park is being constructed at Chhend in Rourkela for the promotion of science and inculcating scientific temper among students. The Collector visited the project site and enquired with the local authorities on completion of work before the Hockey World Cup.   

Construction of a Recreational Park is underway at Koel Nagar. Dr. Gavit inspected the work during a visit to the project site. He reviewed the progress of the renovation works at the Circuit House in Panposh and the Panthanivas at Sector 5 in Rourkela.  Dr. Gavit also oversaw the various developmental works at the Sports Hostel in Panposh during a visit to the facility.

Later, the Collector visited the Rourkela Railway Station and Hanuman Vatika and inspected the various arrangements made for the convenience of the visitors.

ADM Rourkela & Commissioner RMC Dr. Subhankar Mohapatra and Superintendent Engineer PWD Manoj Kumar Mahanand and officials from various departments were present during the Collector’s visit. 

Massive arrangements are being made by the Sundargarh District Administration to successfully host the Hockey World Cup. Construction of roads along with illumination and beautification works are underway in Rourkela city at present.    

The FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 will be organized in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. The Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium is being constructed at the BPUT campus in Rourkela for that purpose. The stadium will have a maximum capacity to accommodate 20,000 spectators upon completion. Side by side, the construction of practice ground and accommodation facility for players and officials are presently underway.
