Sports Minister & Top Officials Inspect Works At Birsa Munda Intl Hockey Stadium In Rourkela
A High Level team, led by the hon'ble Minister of State (MoS) for E & IT, Sports & Youth Services, Home, Shri Tusharkanti Behera, reviewed the progress of works at the under-construction Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium during a visit to Rourkela.
The Secretary, Sports & Youth Services Shri R Vineel Krishna and Managing Director IDCO, Shri Bhupinder Singh Punia, accompanied the hon'ble Minister during the visit. Apart from the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium, the High-Level team also took stock of the progress of works at the under-construction Birsa Munda Football Stadium and the second Brahmani bridge.
Speaking to media representatives following his visit to the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium, the hon’ble Minister said, “Various construction works at the stadium are being carried out on war footing for the 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup. In the meantime, construction of the practice ground has been completed. Works at the main stadium will be over well within the set deadline.”
“Sundargarh is the breeding ground of Hockey in India. The international standard turfs which are being laid in various blocks will be of special help for practice by the budding talents, especially from the rural pockets of the district. The infrastructure will help in their all-round preparations to participate in national and international levels and bring laurels to India as well as Odisha,” the Minister said.
During the infrastructural works inspection at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium, the High-Level team oversaw the entry gates of the main stadium, practice ground, spectators’ gallery, under-construction lodging facilities for players and officials, changing room, modern gym and toilets.
Various infrastructural development and beautification projects are currently underway in Rourkela city for the upcoming Hockey World Cup. The hon’ble Minister issued directions to the concerned officials of the Sundargarh District Administration, Rourkela Municipal Corporation and Smart City to wrap up all project works within deadline.
Following field-visit, the High-Level committee, led by the hon’ble Minister, convened a meeting at the Rourkela aerodrome where they reviewed the various projects carried out in Rourkela city in the run-up to the Hockey World Cup.
Hon'ble MLA Rourkela Shri Sarada Prasad Nayak, Collector Sundargarh Dr. Parag H. Gavali and ADM Rourkela & Commissioner RMC Dr Subhankar Mohapatra accompanied the High-Level committee during the visit.
Odisha is going to host the 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup. This will be for the second time in a row that the state will be hosting the international tournament. The matches of the international tournament will be played at the Kalinga stadium, Bhubaneswar and the (presently) under-construction Birsa Munda International Hockey stadium, the later having a capacity to accommodate 20,000 spectators upon completion.
